The beginning of a new year is a time when many of us think about fresh starts, such as home organization and decluttering. Just thinking about starting however, can make us feel overwhelmed and anxious. Decluttering doesn’t have to be painful, and the benefits are many!

Less to clean 

Cleaning is a chore most of us don’t enjoy, so why spend time cleaning belongings that hold no emotional attachment or function. Less cleaning and more relaxing! 

Less to organize 

With less stuff around, finding a home for everything becomes easier. Move around your home effortlessly, enjoy your space and stop searching for missing items. 

Less stress 

Living amongst clutter is stressful. Wouldn’t you love to take in clean surfaces and safe, well-organized rooms?

Start with 5 minutes at a time. If you’re new to decluttering, you can slowly build momentum by starting with just five minutes a day.

Donate or trash one item daily. Just think, this simple step would remove 365 items every year from your home!

Fill an entire trash bag. Get a trash bag and fill it with belongings or housewares to give to a donation centre.

Donate clothes you never wear. Hang clothes with the hangers in one direction and after wearing them hang them in the reverse direction. You’ll soon know what clothes you seldom wear!

Take the 10-10-10 challenge. Locate 10 items to throw away, 10 to donate, and 10 to be returned to their proper spot in the home.

Tackle one area at a time. Choose one area to declutter and set a realistic time limit so it doesn’t become overwhelming.

Remove the decluttered items from your home. As soon as you have boxes or bags of decluttered items, remove them from the house asap!
